Greg Fischer started out as a businessman where his team at SerVend International was responsible for creating the first ice and drink combination dispenser. Leveraging his quest for innovation and desire for finding the good in people, he made a move into the political sphere, being sworn in as Louisville Mayor in 2011. Greg served his full term limit for 12 years as Mayor, where he coined the term “Bourbonism“, a marriage of Louisville’s native spirit and hospitality. Through this initiative, the city saw a tripling of Bourbon-based tourism and made a mark on the nation as a destination city.
Through the work of many in the bourbon, food, and tourism community, the five year plan that was established was reached in 3 years. This initiative saw the creation of the Bourbon and Beyond festival, an incredible number of bourbon experiences in downtown Louisville, the growth of multiple hotels in the area, and an amazing renovation of the Muhammad Ali International Airport. Read more about the plan here.
We share some amazing pours from around Louisville and Greg teaches us his 7 step process to drinking bourbon. He teaches us the importance of the right kind of ice and we talk about some of Greg’s biggest accomplishments as mayor, including the Evolve502 program, which provides free college tuition for students in the Jefferson County Public School system, and the push to help globalize Louisville by providing a place for diversity and inclusion in the community.
We finish off the show with some fun questions for Greg and get to know about his ideal superpower and the first job he had. Make sure to join us for this one!
